The Navodaya Institute of Technology, Raichur organized a comprehensive session on “Mind and Intellectual Personality Development" specifically for 1st and 2nd-year engineering students.
The session was led by Sri SV Satyanarayana, a senior disciple of the Vedanta Academy, Visakhapatnam, founded by Swami Parthasarathy.
Key Themes and Discussion Points
The Triad of Human Constitution: Sri Satyanarayana explained that a human being consists of the physical body, the mind (emotions), and the intellect (reasoning). He emphasized that while technical education develops “intelligence" or knowledge, true “intellect" is required to govern the mind and make wise life decisions.
Significance of Vedic Wisdom: The speaker highlighted how Vedantic principles are not just religious but provide a scientific framework for “Life and Living." Students were encouraged to look into Vedic texts as sources of ancient wisdom that offer modern solutions for mental peace and dynamic action.
Role of Sanskrit: The session underscored Sanskrit’s importance as a precise language that fosters cognitive development and connects students to their cultural and intellectual roots, which is essential for a well-rounded personality.
Discipline in Daily Routine: Referencing the Vedanta Academy schedule, the speaker stressed the importance of a disciplined routine. Rising early, dedicated reflection, and physical exercise are vital to maintaining a balance between the body, mind, and intellect.
“Being Human" – The Core of Engineering: A central takeaway was that technical skills alone do not make a great engineer. The speaker argued that “being human"—exhibiting empathy, ethics, and emotional stability—is the most critical quality for an engineer to effectively serve society.
