Humanities & Sciences

Humanities & Sciences was established in the year 2008 with an intake of 240 students, which gradually increased; in late 2014, the intake increased to 480. The first year engineering students are administered by this department.

The H & S section is a well-established department, consisting of experienced and highly-qualified faculties from Central & State Universities in various areas, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Management. In H & S, there are total of three Ph. D. holders one in Physics and two in Mathematics, and three are pursuing Ph. D. from VTU. All the members are well experienced in teaching and are committed to their profession.

The Physics and Chemistry laboratories are well-equipped to meet the requirements of the syllabi and are replenished as and when required. Recently, an English & Communication Lab. was established to cater to the needs of the students. The management has taken this initiative to help, largely, the students from vernacular background. There are nine well-furnished and ventilated class rooms in the administrative block exclusively for B.E. I year students.

The prime focus of the H & S Department is to provide a conceptual base in Basic Sciences, which forms a foundation to the engineering subjects. The department also actively organizes educational events such as FDPs, extension lectures, and science fests.

The graduates are expected to obtain a broad understanding of chemistry and learn to think critically and communicate effectively in oral and written forms. The rigorous curriculum provides hands-on experiences with modern experimental and instrumentation, preparing students to enter industry or graduate and professional programs.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  • To acquire sound knowledge in applied and basic engineering sciences, necessary to formulate and solve problems related to Computer Science & Engineering.
  • To develop knowledge in experimentation, analysis, and synthesis of Computer Science & Engineering courses to design/innovate and create novel software products/solutions to real-life problems.
  • To inculcate managerial & entrepreneur skills, ethical & professional attitude, and multidisciplinary approach to meet the needs of the industry and society.
  • To recognize the need for further studies and research in the phase of ever-changing technologies, and to ensure that the students succeed in the engineering positions globally.

Program Outcomes (POs)

  • Engineering knowledge: apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and engineering specializations to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions, using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health & safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The engineer and society: apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • Individual and team work: function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
